I have been breeding Portuguese
Water Dogs since 1986. Our puppies are raised at home where
family and friends help socialize them. Puppies learn about the
outdoors as soon as weather allows.
As with any breed, PWD's
are not exempt from hereditary health problems. When someone
purchases a puppy, it becomes an integral part of the
family. Puppies should be whelped from a sire and dam
that have been certified by the Orthopaedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) to
be free of hip disorders. They should also be certified by the Canine
Eye Registration Foundation (CERF) to be free of eye problems. Our
selective breeding standards have eliminated the need to test our puppies
for GM-1 Gangliosidosis (storage disease) a nervous system disorder and
also PRCD PRA and JDCM. Breeding stock are gene tested for GM-1 and
PRA and marker tested for JDCM prior to breeding to ensure we will not
produce either problem.
