The Future of Hunter

I have been breeding Portuguese Water Dogs since 1986.   Our puppies are raised at home where family and friends  help socialize them. Puppies learn about the outdoors as soon as weather allows and they have access to a lake in our backyard.
As with any breed, PWD's are not exempt from hereditary  health problems.  When someone purchases a puppy, it  becomes an integral  part of the family.  Puppies should  be whelped from a sire and dam  that have been certified by the Orthopaedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) to be free of hip disorders.

Our breeding stock have been tested for and passed all of the health tests recommended by the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America.   This would include OFA, (both hips and elbows), PRA, GM-l,  a current CERF, and now Cardio.

Our selective breeding standards have eliminated the need to test our puppies for GM-1 Gangliosidosis  (storage disease), a nervous system disorder.  All breeding stock is GM-1 tested prior to breeding.
